The Forgotten Game: A Terrifying Tale of a Cursed Board Game and Haunting Secrets

Horror story about a cursed board game that reveals dark past secrets.

The Forgotten Game

It was supposed to be just another nostalgic night at the old lake house—a reunion after ten long years. The air smelled of rain-soaked pine, and laughter echoed through the crumbling wooden hall. Then, tucked behind a broken cabinet, they found it: a box covered in dust and strange carvings. The words on the lid were almost unreadable, but enough remained to make Sarah whisper, “The Forgotten Game.”

Mark, ever the skeptic, shrugged. “Probably some old family game. Let’s give it a shot.”

The dice were heavy, carved from some stone that felt oddly warm to the touch. As the first roll clattered against the table, the lights flickered. The game’s cards slid from beneath the board on their own—each one bearing a name. Theirs.

“What the—how does it know who we are?” whispered Janelle.

The first card read:

CONFESS WHAT YOU HID. OR LOSE.

They laughed nervously, thinking it a prank. But when Sarah refused to speak after her turn, her piece dissolved into smoke. And moments later, the sound of her laughter came again—not from her, but from the walls, echoing, twisted.

One by one, the game forced them to face their past transgressions: Mark’s betrayal, Janelle’s cruel lie, and the secret death they’d all agreed never to mention. Each confession made the room colder. The air thickened until they could barely breathe.

The final card floated up on its own, splattered with something dark and wet.

THE GAME REMEMBERS. NOW, SO DO YOU.

When the storm cleared the next morning, the lake house was empty, save for the old board, reset and waiting. On the box, new names had appeared—scratched in fresh, trembling handwriting.
